Daniel 11:25

Posted on 18 May at 14:54

“And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him.”

In this verse, the prophet Daniel is describing a vision he received from God, which contains details about future events. Let’s break down the verse and explore its meaning:

“And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army”: The “he” mentioned here refers to the northern king or ruler who will rise to power. The “king of the south” represents a ruler from a southern region. This verse depicts a conflict between these two powers.

“The king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army, but he shall not stand”: The king of the south, provoked by the actions of the northern ruler, assembles a large and powerful army to engage in battle. However, despite the strength of the southern army, they will not be able to withstand the assault of the northern king.

“For they shall forecast devices against him”: The northern king, through cunning and strategizing, devises plans or schemes against the king of the south. These devices might include military strategies, political maneuvering, or other tactics that work to the advantage of the northern ruler.

It’s important to note that the precise identities of these kings or rulers mentioned in Daniel 11:25 have been a subject of debate among biblical scholars. Various interpretations exist regarding the historical events and figures being referred to. Some believe that the prophecy may have already been fulfilled in ancient history, while others argue that it points to future events that are yet to occur.

Overall, this verse in the book of Daniel serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty and His ability to reveal future events to His prophets. It highlights the ongoing struggle for power and conflicts between nations. As with any prophecy, it’s essential to study the broader context and consult various interpretations to gain a more comprehensive understanding.

Please keep in mind that interpretations may vary, and it’s always recommended to consult trusted biblical commentaries and seek guidance from your local religious leader for a more nuanced understanding of specific biblical passages.
