Jonah 2:6

Context:Jonah was a prophet whom God had called to deliver a message of repentance to the people of Nineveh, a great city known for its wickedness. However, Jonah initially tried to flee from God’s command and boarded a ship heading in the opposite direction. As a result, God sent a great storm that threatened the ship and its crew. Jonah eventually confessed to the crew that he was the cause of the storm and advised them to throw him into the sea. Jonah was swallowed by a great fish and spent three days and three nights in its belly. This verse is part of Jonah’s prayer of repentance and thanksgiving to God from inside the fish.

Depths of Despair:In this verse, Jonah vividly describes his dire situation. He says, “I went down to the bottoms of the mountains.” This signifies the depths of despair and hopelessness he felt while being swallowed by the fish.
