Zechariah 13:2

“And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.”

This verse is part of the book of Zechariah, which is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. It contains messages and visions given to the prophet Zechariah during the time of the Jewish people’s return from exile in Babylon.

In Zechariah 13:2, the Lord declares that a day will come when He will cut off the names of idols from the land. This refers to a time of cleansing and purification when false gods and idol worship will be abolished. Throughout the history of Israel, idolatry was a persistent problem that led the people away from the worship of the true God. Here, God promises to remove all traces of idolatry, ensuring that these false gods will no longer be remembered.

Furthermore, God says that He will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. This suggests a purging of false prophets and evil spirits. In biblical times, there were individuals who claimed to be prophets but spoke messages that did not align with God’s truth. God promises to remove these false prophets, ensuring that His people receive accurate guidance and teaching.

The reference to the “unclean spirit” could be understood as referring to demonic or evil spirits that influence and deceive people. God’s promise to remove them signifies a time of spiritual cleansing and deliverance from the forces of darkness.

Overall, Zechariah 13:2 speaks of a future day when God will cleanse the land from idolatry, false prophets, and unclean spirits. This is a message of hope and restoration, assuring the people that God will establish a pure and true worship of Himself, free from the influences of false gods and misleading spiritual influences. It emphasises the importance of worshiping the Lord alone and seeking His truth.
