Luke 8:46

Posted on 18 May at 14:41

“But Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.”

Context:Luke 8:46 is part of the account of Jesus’ healing of the woman with the issue of blood.

This passage holds several significant lessons and insights:

Jesus’ Awareness:In this verse, Jesus declares that someone had touched Him, despite the large crowd pressing around Him. This demonstrates His remarkable sensitivity and awareness of the needs of individuals. Despite the multitude of people, Jesus perceives the touch of faith.

The Woman’s Faith:The context of this verse reveals that a woman who had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years sought healing by touching the fringe of Jesus’ garment. Her act was an expression of faith, believing that just a touch would bring about her healing. Her faith and persistence serve as examples for us today, showing that a simple act of faith can lead to a powerful encounter with Jesus.

The Power of Jesus:Jesus affirms that virtue, or power, had gone out of Him when the woman touched Him. This illustrates the extraordinary power that emanates from Jesus, capable of bringing about healing and transformation. It highlights the divine authority and supernatural abilities of Jesus as the Son of God.

Individual Relationship:Despite the large crowd surrounding Him, Jesus identifies and engages with this particular woman. He acknowledges her faith and provides her an opportunity to share her testimony. This emphasizes the personal nature of Jesus’ relationship with each individual. He is not only concerned with the masses but also with every individual’s unique circumstances and needs.

Restoration and Wholeness:This account emphasises the physical healing the woman received. However, it also symbolises the restoration and wholeness Jesus offers to all who come to Him in faith. The woman experienced not only physical healing but also the restoration of her social standing and her relationship with God. It serves as a reminder that Jesus is not only concerned with our physical well-being but also with our spiritual and emotional restoration.
