Listen to this article

“And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.”

Context:To understand the significance of this verse, it’s important to consider its context. In Luke 8:43-48, we read about a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years. She had spent all her resources on physicians but could not find a cure. In her desperation, she approached Jesus, believing that if she could just touch the hem of His garment, she would be healed.

The Woman’s Faith:This passage highlights the woman’s faith. Despite her physical condition, she had unwavering faith in Jesus’ ability to heal her. She believed that a simple touch of His garment would be enough to bring about her healing. Her faith is seen in her actions as she pressed through the crowd, determined to reach Jesus.

Trembling and Falling Down:When the woman realised that her healing had taken place, she came forward trembling and fell down before Jesus. Her response demonstrates her reverence and awe in the presence of Jesus. She recognised that something extraordinary had happened, and she wanted to give glory to God for her healing.

Declaring Before All:The woman boldly declared before the people why she had touched Jesus and how she had been immediately healed. By doing so, she publicly testified to the power of Jesus and His ability to bring about miraculous healings. Her testimony served as a witness to the people who witnessed her healing and heard her proclamation.

Lessons to Learn:a. Faith and Healing: This passage emphasises the importance of faith in receiving healing from Jesus. The woman’s faith in Jesus’ power and her persistent pursuit of Him resulted in her healing. It encourages us to approach Jesus with faith, believing that He has the power to heal us from physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments.

b. Boldness in Testimony: The woman’s willingness to share her testimony before all the people demonstrates the impact of personal testimony in spreading the Gospel. It encourages us to share our experiences of God’s work in our lives, boldly proclaiming His goodness and the miracles He has performed.

Application:

  • Cultivate Faith:Let the example of this woman’s faith inspire you to cultivate a strong and unwavering faith in Jesus. Trust in His power to heal and restore every aspect of your life.
  • Share Your Testimony:Don’t hesitate to share your personal testimonies of how Jesus has worked in your life. Your testimony can be a powerful tool to encourage others and point them to the saving grace of Christ.

Remember, Luke 8:47 not only records a miraculous healing but also teaches us important lessons about faith, boldness in testimony, and the power of Jesus to heal. May this study deepen your understanding of this passage and encourage you in your own journey of faith.
