Luke 9:10

Posted on 18 May at 14:14

“And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.”

Context:Luke 9:10 is a part of the larger narrative in Luke’s Gospel where Jesus sends out the twelve apostles to proclaim the kingdom of God and heal the sick. After their mission, they return to Jesus to report what they had done.

The Importance of Reporting:The fact that the apostles reported back to Jesus demonstrates their accountability and the importance of communication within the ministry. It shows that they recognised Jesus as their leader and wanted to share their experiences with Him.

Jesus’ Response:In response to the apostles’ return, Jesus takes them aside privately to a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. This indicates Jesus’ desire for some private time with His disciples, away from the crowds. It reveals His care for their physical and spiritual well-being.

The Significance of Bethsaida:Bethsaida was a small fishing village located near the Sea of Galilee. It was the hometown of some of Jesus’ disciples, including Philip, Andrew, and Peter. By choosing this particular location, Jesus may have intended to provide a familiar and peaceful setting for His disciples to rest and reflect.
