Luke 24:32

Posted on 18 May at 14:05

And they said one vnto another, Did not our heart burne within vs, while hee talked with vs by the way, and while hee opened to vs the Scriptures? Luke 24:32 (KJV)

Context: Luke 24:32 is part of the account of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. After the crucifixion of Jesus, they were discussing the events that had taken place. Jesus appeared to them on the road but kept His identity hidden. He walked with them and explained the Scriptures concerning Himself, but they did not recognize Him until later.

Burning Hearts: In this verse the disciples express their realization and amazement at the impact of Jesus’ teaching on their hearts. They describe how their hearts burned within them as Jesus spoke to them and opened the Scriptures. This burning sensation represents a deep spiritual stirring and understanding that they experienced.

The Presence of Jesus: The disciples recognised that there was something unique about their encounter with Jesus. They sensed His authority and the power of His words. The presence of Jesus, even though they did not recognise Him initially, had a profound impact on them. It stirred their hearts and ignited a spiritual fire within them.

The Power of the Scriptures: The disciples also acknowledged the significance of Jesus opening the Scriptures to them. Through His teaching He revealed the truth and fulfilment of the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Jesus connected the dots and unveiled the meaning of Scripture in relation to Himself. This demonstrates the importance of studying and understanding the Scriptures, as they point to Jesus and contain the message of salvation.
