John 15:11

Context:John 15:11 is part of Jesus’ teaching to His disciples in the upper room on the night before His crucifixion. In this chapter, Jesus uses the metaphor of a vine and branches to illustrate the importance of abiding in Him for spiritual fruitfulness.

“These things have I spoken unto you”:In the preceding verses, Jesus emphasizes the importance of abiding in Him, just as branches abide in the vine to bear fruit. He speaks about the need to remain connected to Him, as apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:4-5).

“That my joy might remain in you”:Jesus desires that His joy may abide or remain in His disciples. This joy is not dependent on external circumstances but is rooted in the relationship with Christ. It is a deep and abiding joy that transcends temporary happiness.

“That your joy might be full”:Jesus also desires that His disciples experience fullness of joy.
