Acts 3:21

Listen to this article

“Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”

The verse you mentioned, Acts 3:21 (KJV), states:

This verse is part of a sermon delivered by Peter and John at the temple in Jerusalem after healing a man who had been lame from birth. In this sermon, Peter explains to the crowd the significance of Jesus Christ’s death, resurrection, and the power of His name.

Now let’s break down the verse and explore its key elements:

“Whom the heaven must receive”:This refers to Jesus Christ, who ascended to heaven after His resurrection. Peter is emphasising that Jesus is in heaven, at the right hand of God, and is awaiting a specific time for His return.

“Until the times of restitution of all things”:The word “restitution” means restoration or renewal. This phrase suggests that there will be a future time when all things will be restored or put back in their rightful order. It implies a period of great transformation and renewal that will come about through the work of Jesus Christ.

“Which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began”:Here, Peter highlights that the promise of this restoration and renewal has been proclaimed by God through His holy prophets throughout history. The prophets of the Old Testament spoke about the coming Messiah and the establishment of His kingdom, which will bring about the fulfilment of God’s purposes for creation.

This verse conveys the idea that Jesus, having completed His earthly ministry and ascended to heaven, will remain there until the appointed time for the complete restoration of all things. This restoration includes the fulfilment of God’s promises, the establishment of His kingdom, and the renewal of creation.

The concept of the “restitution of all things” has been understood by some Christians as referring to the future fulfilment of God’s plan for redemption and restoration. It suggests that there will be a time when all things broken by sin will be made right, and God’s perfect order and justice will be fully realised.

Overall, Acts 3:21 reminds believers that although Jesus is currently in heaven, His work is not yet complete. There is a future day of restoration when all things will be set right according to God’s plan, as proclaimed by His holy prophets since the beginning of the world.

Remember that biblical interpretation can vary, and it’s always beneficial to study the context, consult other translations, and seek guidance from trusted teachers and resources when studying the Bible.
