2 Corinthians 1:20

Listen to this article

“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

Here’s a breakdown of this verse:This phrase highlights the faithfulness of God in fulfilling His promises. The word "yea" signifies "yes" or "certainly." It assures us that God’s promises are reliable and trustworthy. In the context of this verse, the phrase "in him" refers to Jesus Christ, who is the fulfillment of God’s promises. All the promises of God find their confirmation and fulfillment in Christ.

The word "Amen" means "so be it" or "truly." In this context, it emphasizes the certainty and truthfulness of God’s promises. The statement "in him Amen" further emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the foundation and assurance of the fulfillment of God’s promises.

This phrase emphasizes the purpose of God’s promises. The fulfillment of His promises brings glory to God. As believers, we have the privilege of being partakers in this process. We play a role in demonstrating the glory of God by our lives and testimony. When we experience the fulfillment of God’s promises in Christ, we give glory to Him.

It is important to note that while this verse specifically refers to the faithfulness of God’s promises in Christ, the broader context of 2 Corinthians 1 discusses the comfort and encouragement that God provides in times of trouble and suffering. Paul, the author of Corinthians, reassures the believers that God is their source of comfort and strength, and His promises give them hope and assurance in their trials.
