2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)
Context
Paul writes to the Corinthian believers during a season of hardship, defending both his integrity and the reliability of his message. He had been accused of vacillating, so he points to Christ as the unchanging center of his preaching. In Christ, Paul says, God’s word is never uncertain.
Meaning
The word “yea” translates the Greek “nai,” meaning “yes” or “certainly.” Every promise God has made is confirmed in Jesus Christ. The word “Amen” means “so be it” or “truly,” and it expresses the believer’s confident agreement. In Christ, God’s promises are not only affirmed by Him but are also received by us with a resounding “Amen.“
This verse teaches that Jesus is the foundation and fulfillment of all God’s promises. What God has pledged, He has secured in His Son. Our part is to trust and respond with faith, joining in the “Amen” that acknowledges His faithfulness.
Application
When we face trials, we can remember that God’s promises are not vague hopes but certain realities in Christ. Our response is to affirm them with a confident “Amen,” trusting that He will do what He has said. As we live in that trust, our lives bring glory to God.
Reflection
Consider a promise from Scripture that you are waiting to see fulfilled. How does knowing that all of God’s promises are “yea and Amen” in Christ strengthen your faith today?
