2 Corinthians 7:6

Posted on 18 May at 11:40

“Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;”

Context:The book of 2 Corinthians was written by the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. In this particular verse, Paul is expressing his joy and gratitude for the comfort that God provided through the arrival of Titus, his trusted companion and fellow laborer in ministry.

Comfort in times of distress:Paul begins by acknowledging that God is the ultimate source of comfort for those who are downcast or experiencing distress. This emphasizes God’s compassion and care for His people. It shows that even in difficult situations, God is present to bring solace and encouragement.

God’s comfort through human relationships:In this verse, Paul specifically mentions how God comforted him and his companions through the coming of Titus. Titus’s presence brought comfort and encouragement to Paul, both personally and in his ministry. It is a reminder that God often uses human relationships to provide comfort and support to His people. Through the presence and actions of others, God’s love and care are manifested.

The role of companions in ministry:Paul’s mention of Titus highlights the significance of having trustworthy and supportive companions in ministry. The work of spreading the Gospel and ministering to others can be challenging, and having like-minded individuals who offer comfort, encouragement, and practical help is invaluable.

Application:This verse encourages believers to seek comfort from God during times of distress and to be open to receiving comfort through the support of others. It also reminds us of the importance of being a source of comfort and encouragement to those around us, especially fellow believers in Christ.
