Listen to this article

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”

Context:This verse is part of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians. In this letter, Paul expresses his gratitude and thankfulness to God for the Philippian believers.

Gratitude and Thankfulness:The verse begins with Paul expressing his gratitude by saying, “I thank my God.” Here, Paul acknowledges that his gratitude is directed towards God, recognizing that God is the source of every blessing and good thing in his life. It is essential for us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and regularly express our thankfulness to God for all that He has done for us.

Remembrance of Others:Paul says he thanks God “upon every remembrance of you.” This indicates that Paul fondly remembers the Philippians and the impact they had on his life and ministry. The word “remembrance” implies that Paul often brings the Philippian believers to mind, cherishing the memories and experiences they shared together. It demonstrates the close bond and affection Paul had for the Philippian church.

Personal Relationship with God:Paul’s gratitude towards the Philippians stems from his personal relationship with God. He sees God as “my God,” indicating a personal and intimate connection. Paul’s thankfulness is not based solely on his relationship with the Philippians but is rooted in his relationship with God. This highlights the importance of a personal relationship with God as the foundation for healthy relationships with others.

  • Expressing gratitude and thankfulness to God is essential in the life of a believer. It reminds us of God’s goodness and cultivates a positive attitude.
  • Cherishing the memories of fellow believers and valuing their impact in our lives is an important aspect of Christian fellowship.
  • A personal relationship with God should be the source of our gratitude and the foundation for our relationships with others.

Philippians 1:3 serves as a reminder for us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude towards God and to value the relationships we have with other believers. By expressing our thankfulness to God and cherishing the memories of fellow believers, we can foster a spirit of love, unity, and appreciation within the Christian community.
