Colossians 3:15

Posted on 18 May at 14:29

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Context:Colossians is one of the letters written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Colossae. In this particular verse, Paul is exhorting the believers to let the peace of God rule in their hearts.

The Peace of God:The peace of God refers to the inner peace that comes from a relationship with Him. It is the peace that transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and guards our hearts and minds. This peace is a gift from God through Jesus Christ (John 14:27).

Ruling in Your Hearts:The phrase “let the peace of God rule in your hearts” implies that we have a choice to make. We can either allow the peace of God to govern our thoughts, emotions, and decisions, or we can let other things like worry, fear, and anxiety control us. Paul encourages believers to surrender their hearts to God’s peace and allow it to have authority in their lives.

Called in One Body:Paul reminds the Colossian believers that they are called to live in unity as one body. As Christians, we are part of the body of Christ, the Church, and we are called to maintain peace and harmony within the community of believers. This unity should be marked by love, forgiveness, and understanding, allowing the peace of God to guide our interactions with one another.

Be Thankful:In addition to letting the peace of God rule in their hearts and living in unity, Paul also instructs the believers to be thankful. Gratitude is an essential attitude for believers because it helps us focus on the goodness of God and cultivates a heart of contentment. Being thankful in all circumstances demonstrates our trust in God’s faithfulness and provision.

Application:To apply this verse to our lives today, we need to actively choose to let the peace of God rule in our hearts. This involves seeking a deep relationship with God through prayer, studying His Word, and cultivating a heart of trust and surrender. We should also strive for unity in our relationships with other believers, promoting love, forgiveness, and understanding. Additionally, maintaining an attitude of gratitude will help us stay focused on God’s blessings, even in challenging situations.

  • Remember, Colossians 3:15 encourages us to prioritise the peace of God in our lives, embrace unity within the body of Christ, and maintain an attitude of gratitude. By doing so, we can experience the transformative power of God’s peace and reflect His love to the world around us.
