Revelation 12:15

Posted on 18 May at 14:20

“And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.”

Context:In the book of Revelation, the apostle John receives a series of visions that reveal events and prophecies concerning the end times. Revelation 12 focuses on a great sign in heaven, depicting a woman, a dragon, and a male child. The verse in question describes the serpent, identified as the dragon or Satan, attempting to destroy the woman by causing a flood to carry her away.

Symbolism:In biblical prophecy, symbolism is often used to convey deeper spiritual truths. Here, the woman in Revelation 12 represents the faithful people of God, which includes both Israel and the Church. The dragon symbolises Satan, who is the enemy of God and seeks to oppose His plans. The flood represents the devil’s attempt to overwhelm and destroy the people of God through various means.

Spiritual Warfare:The imagery of the serpent casting out a flood reflects the ongoing spiritual battle between good and evil. Satan, represented as the serpent, constantly seeks to hinder and destroy God’s people. The flood is a metaphor for the enemy’s tactics, such as persecution, deception, and opposition, aimed at overwhelming and sweeping away believers. It highlights the intensity of the spiritual warfare believers face in this world.

God’s Protection:Although the serpent casts out the flood, we find hope in the fact that the woman is not ultimately overcome. Throughout the Bible, we see that God promises to protect His people and preserve a remnant. In this verse, God’s providential care is evident as He intervenes to ensure the woman is not carried away by the flood. This reminds us that even in the face of intense spiritual attacks, God’s power is greater, and He will safeguard His faithful followers.

Application:Revelation 12:15 serves as a reminder for believers today. We live in a world filled with spiritual battles, trials, and temptations. Like the woman in the vision, we may face opposition from the enemy seeking to overwhelm and destroy us. However, we can find encouragement in knowing that God is with us and will protect us. We must remain steadfast in our faith, trusting in God’s power and relying on His strength to overcome the schemes of the enemy.
