“And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke.”

Context:Acts 2:19 is part of Peter’s quotation from the prophet Joel’s writings. In Joel 2:28-32, there is a prophecy about the pouring out of the Holy Spirit in the last days, which Peter declares is being fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.

1. Context:Acts 2:19 is part of Peter’s quotation from the prophet Joel’s writings. In Joel 2:28-32, there is a prophecy about the pouring out of the Holy Spirit in the last days, which Peter declares is being fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.

2. “I will show wonders in heaven above”: This portion of the verse indicates that God will display extraordinary signs and marvels in the celestial realm. It suggests supernatural occurrences that will capture people’s attention and reveal God’s power and glory.

3. “And signs in the earth beneath”: This phrase speaks of signs and wonders that will take place on the earth. These could refer to miraculous events, both natural and supernatural, happening on the earth’s surface.

4. “Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke”: These specific signs mentioned by Peter correspond to the cosmic disturbances mentioned in Joel’s prophecy. They are symbolic descriptions of significant events. “Blood” may refer to war or bloodshed, “fire” may symbolize judgment or divine intervention, and “vapor of smoke” could signify destruction or the aftermath of intense events.

It’s important to note that this verse is part of a larger context and is specifically referring to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the signs and wonders accompanying it. Peter used this passage to emphasize that the events unfolding on the day of Pentecost were not random but were the fulfillment of God’s plan as prophesied by Joel.
