Acts 2:25

Listen to this article

For Dauid speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord alwayes before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moued. Acts 2:25 (KJV)

A notable observation is that this exact wording does not appear in the King James Version of the Bible. The statement that the quoted passage attributed to David “does not appear in the King James Version of the Bible” highlights a textual discrepancy between the citation in Acts and the canonical Psalter as rendered in the KJV. The absence of this precise phrasing in the KJV suggests that the author of Acts may have been employing a paraphrase, a different source tradition, or a quotation that reflects a variant textual tradition not captured in the KJV translation.

Recognizing that the quotation is not found verbatim in the KJV underscores the importance of careful textual comparison when studying biblical citations. It reminds the reader that biblical authors sometimes draw on familiar themes and language without reproducing a word‑for‑word quotation from the existing translation. The emphasis remains on the theological affirmation that the Lord’s presence provides steadfast security, a theme consistent with Davidic language, even though the exact formula is not recorded in the KJV text. This awareness encourages a respectful and diligent approach to interpreting scriptural references, acknowledging both the continuity of the theological message and the nuances of textual transmission.
