Acts 5:23

Listen to this article

“Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.”

Context:Acts 5:23 is part of a larger narrative that describes an incident involving the apostles Peter and John. After being arrested for preaching about Jesus and performing miracles, they were miraculously freed from prison by an angel. This verse is part of the account of their release and the confusion it caused among the guards.

The verse begins by stating that the prison was securely shut and guarded. The keepers were standing outside the doors, ensuring the confinement of Peter and John. This detail emphasises the impossibility of their escape through natural means.

The verse continues by stating that, upon opening the prison doors, the guards found no one inside. This sudden disappearance of the prisoners was a clear demonstration of divine intervention. It was a miraculous act that defied human understanding and natural laws. God supernaturally intervened to release His servants from captivity.

This verse highlights the power and protection of God. Despite the efforts made to imprison the apostles, God was able to bypass human barriers and secure their freedom. It serves as a reminder that nothing can hinder God’s plans or restrain His power. When He chooses to act on behalf of His people, He can override any human authority or obstacle.

This verse also underscores the faithfulness of Peter, John, and the other apostles in obeying God rather than men. Despite facing imprisonment and persecution for their faith, they continued to boldly proclaim the message of Jesus Christ. Their commitment to God’s calling and their unwavering faith in His protection led to this remarkable deliverance.

Acts 5:23 serves as an encouragement for believers facing difficult circumstances. It reminds us that God is able to intervene in supernatural ways to rescue and deliver His people. It also encourages us to remain steadfast in our obedience to God, even in the face of opposition. We can trust that He will provide a way and protect us according to His perfect will.
