And one said to the man clothed in linnen, which was vpon the waters of the riuer; How long shall it bee to the end of these wonders? Daniel 12:6 (KJV)

Context: The book of Daniel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, written by the prophet Daniel during the Babylonian exile. It contains visions and prophecies that reveal God’s plans for the future and provide insight into the end times.

In Daniel 12 the prophet receives further revelations concerning the time of the end and the resurrection of the dead. The scene shifts to a conversation between two heavenly beings: one speaking to the man clothed in linen, who is standing upon the waters of the river. This man is likely an angel or a divine being sent to provide understanding regarding the events and timeframe associated with the prophecies.

The question posed to the man clothed in linen is, “How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?” This question reflects the curiosity of the speaker, seeking to know the duration and culmination of the prophetic events. The “wonders” refer to the events previously mentioned and yet to unfold, as described in the preceding verses of Daniel 12.

It is important to note that the specific answer to this question is not provided in Daniel 12:6. The subsequent verses offer additional information about the timeframes associated with the fulfillment of these prophecies.

Significance and Application:

Daniel’s question illustrates the natural human inclination to seek understanding and clarity regarding God’s plans and the timing of future events. As believers we may also have questions about the fulfillment of God’s promises, the coming of Christ, or the ultimate establishment of His kingdom.

While we may not have all the answers or the exact timeline, this passage reminds us of the importance of seeking understanding from God and trusting in His sovereignty. The dialogue teaches that God’s plans and timing are under His control, and He will reveal what is necessary for His purposes in due time.

As we study the Bible and engage in prayer, we can seek God’s guidance and wisdom, finding comfort in knowing that He is aware of the future and holds it in His hands. Our responsibility is to remain faithful and obedient to His Word, eagerly anticipating the fulfillment of His promises.

In conclusion, Daniel 12:6 presents an inquiry about the duration of the wonders associated with the end times. It encourages us to seek understanding, trust in God’s sovereignty, and remain faithful as we await the fulfillment of His plans.
