Daniel 9:20

Posted on 18 May at 14:57

“And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God.”

Context:The book of Daniel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and this verse is part of a prayer offered by Daniel. In this chapter, Daniel was reflecting on the prophecy of Jeremiah concerning the desolation of Jerusalem, and he was seeking understanding from God regarding the future restoration of Israel.

Prayer and Confession:Daniel was engaged in prayer, confession, and supplication before the Lord. This demonstrates his humble and contrite heart as he acknowledges both his own sins and the sins of his people Israel. Daniel’s prayer provides a model for believers today to approach God with humility, confession, and supplication.

Intercession for Israel:Daniel specifically intercedes for the “holy mountain of my God,” which refers to Jerusalem and the temple mount. This highlights Daniel’s concern for the restoration of Israel and the fulfillment of God’s promises to His people. It shows Daniel’s deep love for his nation and his desire to see the city and the temple restored.

Persistence in Prayer:The context of this verse reveals that Daniel had been engaged in prayer and fasting for a considerable period of time. Despite the challenges and the long duration, he did not give up but persisted in seeking God’s face. Daniel’s perseverance in prayer teaches us the importance of persistence and tenacity when seeking the Lord.

  • Application:Daniel’s prayer and intercession can inspire us to approach God with humility, confessing our sins and seeking His mercy. It reminds us of the power of prayer and the importance of interceding for others, particularly for the restoration and well-being of God’s people. Additionally, this verse encourages us to persist in prayer, even when we don’t see immediate answers, trusting in God’s faithfulness and timing.
