Deuteronomy 33:15

Listen to this article

And for the chiefe things of the ancient mountaines, and for the precious things of the lasting hils, Deuteronomy 33:15 (KJV)

The passage reads, “And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills.” It is recorded in Deuteronomy chapter 33 verse 15 in the King James Version. The wording emphasizes the pre‑eminence of what is described as “chief” and “precious,” and it locates those items in the “ancient mountains” and the “lasting hills.” The adjective “chief” conveys a sense of highest rank or importance. “Ancient” points to great age, suggesting that the mountains have stood for a long time. “Precious” denotes great value, while “lasting” indicates durability and endurance. Together the phrase paints a picture of valuable and enduring elements associated with lofty, timeless terrain.

Some references attribute the same wording to Proverbs 8:23, but the note accompanying the alternative citation clarifies that this passage is not found in the King James Version of the Bible. The discrepancy highlights the importance of checking the exact source when quoting Scripture. While the wording appears identical, the canonical location differs, and the KJV does not contain the phrase in Proverbs.

Because the verse is firmly placed in Deuteronomy 33:15 in the KJV, any study or discussion should cite that reference. Recognizing the textual variation prevents misquotation and ensures that readers are directed to the correct biblical context. Careful attention to the precise book, chapter, and verse maintains the integrity of biblical study and respects the original wording of the Holy Scriptures.
