Exodus 16:6

Listen to this article

And Moses and Aaron said vnto all the children of Israel, At euen, then ye shall know that the Lord hath brought you out from the land of Egypt. Exodus 16:6 (KJV)

Exodus 16 records the events that took place shortly after the Israelites’ departure from Egypt. While journeying through the wilderness the people began to grumble against Moses and Aaron because they lacked food. In response to their complaints God revealed His plan to provide for them by sending bread from heaven, known as manna, and quail in the evening.

In verse 6 Moses and Aaron address the whole assembly of the children of Israel, assuring them that at evening they will recognise and understand that it is the LORD who has brought them out of the land of Egypt. Their declaration points the people to a specific moment when God’s provision will become evident.

The reference to “even” or “evening” highlights the timing of God’s deliverance. The evening would bring quail, while the following morning would bring manna. By mentioning the evening, the leaders underscore that the people will know by that time that the LORD is their provider and that His miraculous care is imminent.

The verse emphasizes the divine intervention that rescued the Israelites from Egypt and reminds them that the same Lord who initiated their liberation will continue to care for them in the wilderness. This assurance of ongoing provision reinforces the covenant relationship between God and His people.

Consequently, the passage encourages the Israelites to trust in God’s faithfulness and to have confidence that He will meet their needs. It reminds them that their journey depends not on their own strength but on God’s guidance and sustenance.

For believers today, Exodus 16:6 invites reflection on our own journeys of faith. It calls us to acknowledge that God leads, provides, and delivers us from challenges, just as He did for Israel. By trusting in His timing and relying on His guidance, we align ourselves with the same faithfulness celebrated in the wilderness.

In summary, the declaration of Moses and Aaron points the people to an evening when God’s deliverance would be unmistakable. The verse underscores the importance of trusting in God’s provision, recognizing His ongoing care, and relying on His guidance throughout the pilgrimage of faith.
