Exodus 26:23

And two boards shalt thou make for the corners of the tabernacle in the two sides. Exodus 26:23 (KJV)

Exodus 26 belongs to the detailed instructions God gave Moses for constructing the tabernacle, the portable sanctuary that served as the people’s place of worship during their wilderness journey. The chapter outlines how the entire tabernacle structure was to be built, covering both the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies), as well as the surrounding walls and coverings.

The tabernacle was a visible symbol of God’s presence among Israel. It consisted of an outer courtyard, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place, each serving a specific function in Israel’s worship and sacrificial system. Exodus 26 primarily deals with the construction of the walls, frames, and coverings that gave the sanctuary its shape and stability.

In verse 23 God commands Moses to make two boards for the corners of the tabernacle. These boards were to be placed on the two sides of each corner, providing essential stability and strength to the overall structure. The corner boards ensured that the tabernacle could be assembled securely and would stand firm as the Israelites moved it from place to place.

The construction of the tabernacle carried both practical and symbolic significance. Practically, it created a holy space for worship and sacrifice. Symbolically, the tabernacle represented God’s dwelling among His people and the means by which they could approach Him.

The two boards can also remind believers of the importance of unity and support within the body of Christ. Just as each board contributed to the structural integrity of the sanctuary, every member of the church plays a vital role in strengthening and upholding the community.

Application: Believers are called to stand together in unity, encouraging and supporting one another. Our individual gifts and cooperation are essential for the growth and edification of the Church, just as the boards were essential for the proper functioning of the tabernacle. We should strive to be pillars of strength, firm in faith, and work together to fulfill God’s purposes.

Remember that studying the Bible involves reading surrounding verses and exploring the broader context to gain a comprehensive understanding of the passage. Continue your study of Exodus 26 and the entire book of Exodus to deepen your knowledge of God’s instructions and His faithfulness to the Israelites.
