Exodus 6:11

Posted on 2 August 2023
Listen to this article

“Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.”

Context: The book of Exodus chronicles the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and their journey to the Promised Land under the leadership of Moses. At this point in the narrative, Moses and his brother Aaron had been commissioned by God to approach Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, and demand the release of the Israelites.

Biblical Analysis:

  • Obedience to God’s Command: God instructed Moses to go to Pharaoh and request the liberation of the Israelites. Despite the potential challenges and dangers involved, Moses was obedient to God’s command and accepted the responsibility to confront Pharaoh.
  • God’s Authority: The verse emphasizes that Moses was to go before Pharaoh “that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.” It highlights God’s supreme authority over Pharaoh and the entire nation of Egypt. Through this demand, God asserts His power and reveals His intention to deliver His people from their oppressive bondage.
  • God’s Purpose: The purpose of God’s command was to set the Israelites free from slavery and lead them to the land promised to their forefathers. God had made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and now the time had come for the fulfillment of His promise. The liberation from Egypt would mark the beginning of their journey towards the land of Canaan.
  • Pharaoh’s Resistance: Despite Moses and Aaron’s repeated entreaties, Pharaoh would stubbornly resist the command of God. His hardened heart would lead to a series of plagues upon Egypt, each serving as a demonstration of God’s power and an opportunity for Pharaoh to acknowledge and obey the Lord.

Spiritual Lessons:

  • Obedience and Faith: Moses’ obedience to God’s command despite the challenging circumstances serves as a lesson in faith. It reminds us of the importance of trust and reliance on God’s guidance, even when the tasks assigned to us seem daunting or impossible.
  • God’s Sovereignty: Exodus 6:11 affirms God’s authority over earthly rulers and nations. It reminds us that no matter how powerful or resistant human authorities may be, they are ultimately subject to God’s divine plan and purpose. We can find comfort and confidence in knowing that God’s will shall prevail.
  • God’s Faithfulness to His Promises: The verse reflects God’s faithfulness to His covenant with Abraham and His commitment to fulfilling His promises. It assures us that God remains faithful throughout generations, and He will bring to pass what He has declared.
  • Patience and Perseverance: The subsequent events in Exodus highlight the need for patience and perseverance in the face of challenges. The Israelites would face numerous trials and obstacles before reaching the Promised Land, teaching us the value of trust and endurance during our own spiritual journeys.

Overall, Exodus 6:11 reveals God’s authority, His call for obedience, and His faithfulness to His promises. It encourages us to trust in God’s plan, obey His commands, and persevere through trials, knowing that He is sovereign and will fulfill His purposes in our lives.
