Exodus 6:13

Posted on 2 August 2023
Listen to this article

And the Lord spake vnto Moses and vnto Aaron, & gaue them a charge vnto the children of Israel, and vnto Pharaoh King of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. Exodus 6:13 (KJV)

The quoted passage that adds the words ‘If God were not in the land of Egypt, then He would have been there, too, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt’ is not found in any verse of the King James Version of the Bible. In particular, Exodus 6:13 does not contain these words. The actual text of Exodus 6:13 (KJV) reads: ‘And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will harden thy heart this time also, that I may show up my power among them; therefore they shall do…’. Therefore the claim that the extended quotation is a biblical verse is inaccurate.

This contrast highlights that the original charge given to Moses and Aaron is clearly recorded, while the additional saying about God’s location is absent. The authentic charge emphasizes the purpose to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, directed toward both the children of Israel and Pharaoh king of Egypt. The false addition attempts to insert a conditional statement about God’s location, but such language is not part of the King James text.

Readers are therefore urged to verify quotations against the actual KJV wording. When a passage is cited, the exact words must correspond to the verse as printed. Any deviation, such as the inserted conditional phrase, results in an inaccurate representation of Scripture. Maintaining fidelity to the biblical text preserves the integrity of study and prevents the spread of mistaken claims about what the Lord actually said to Moses and Aaron.
