Ezekiel 11:10
Yee shall fall by the sword, I will iudge you in the border of Israel, and ye shall know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 11:10 (KJV)
The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic work in the Old Testament that conveys God’s messages to the exiled Israelites in Babylon. Ezekiel himself was an exile and a prophet who received visions and prophecies from God and faithfully communicated them to the people of Israel.
In chapter 11 the prophet is transported in the Spirit to Jerusalem, where he observes the rampant wickedness and idolatry of both the leaders and the people. The surrounding verses reveal God’s intention to bring judgment upon Jerusalem because of the nation’s sinfulness.
The specific verse, Ezekiel 11:10, forms part of this judgment declaration. Earlier, the corrupt leaders had boasted, “This city is the caldron, and we be the flesh” (Ezekiel 11:3). God rebukes this self‑satisfaction by stating, “This city shall not be your caldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof; but I will judge you in the border of Israel.”
The phrase “This city shall not be your caldron” emphasizes that Jerusalem will not serve as a place of safety or refuge for the wicked. Likewise, “neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof” underscores that they will find no protection within the city’s walls.
God’s promise, “I will judge you in the border of Israel,” indicates that execution of judgment will occur outside Jerusalem’s boundaries. This likely points to the impending exile and scattering of the Israelites among the nations as a direct consequence of their disobedience.
Overall, Ezekiel 11:10 serves as a stark warning and a clear declaration of divine judgment against the corrupt leaders and people of Israel. It reminds the nation that Jerusalem will not shield them, and that God’s judgment will be carried out at the border, compelling them to recognize that He alone is the LORD.
