Ezekiel 22:14

Listen to this article

“Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it.”

This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Ezekiel where God speaks to the prophet Ezekiel about the sins and corruption within the city of Jerusalem. The Lord uses vivid imagery and strong language to convey the severity of the people’s transgressions and the consequences that will follow.

In Ezekiel 22:14, the Lord questions whether the people’s hearts can endure or their hands can remain strong in the days of His judgment. It highlights the impending judgment and the severity of the situation. God’s judgment is not to be taken lightly, and the people will face the consequences of their actions.

The phrase “Can thine heart endure” suggests that the people’s hearts will be tested, as they will have to face the full weight of God’s judgment. It speaks to the emotional and spiritual endurance required in times of trial and hardship. This verse challenges the people to examine their own hearts and assess whether they are prepared for the judgment that awaits them.

Likewise, the phrase “Can thine hands be strong” implies that the people’s physical strength and ability to withstand the judgment will be tested. It points to the idea that the people will need strength and resilience to face the consequences of their actions. In this context, strength not only refers to physical strength but also to moral fortitude and the ability to stand firm in the face of adversity.

The verse concludes with a reminder that it is the Lord who has spoken and will fulfill His words. It reinforces the authority and sovereignty of God. His words are not empty threats but promises that will come to pass. This serves as a warning to the people that they cannot escape the consequences of their actions. God’s judgment will be executed justly and according to His own timing.
