Ezekiel 28:1

Listen to this article

“The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,”

Context:Ezekiel 28 is a prophetic chapter in the book of Ezekiel. In this chapter, the prophet receives a message from the Lord to address the ruler of Tyre, who symbolizes the pride and arrogance of human kings and leaders. Through this message, God declares judgment upon the ruler of Tyre and reveals the consequences of his pride and wickedness.

Explanation: In verse 1, Ezekiel declares that the word of the Lord came to him once again. Throughout the book of Ezekiel, the prophet frequently received divine revelations and messages from God to deliver to the people of Israel and other nations. In this case, Ezekiel receives a specific word concerning the ruler of Tyre.

Application: While the immediate context of this verse relates to the ruler of Tyre, there are some timeless lessons that we can draw from it. Here are a few key points:

  • The importance of God’s Word:Ezekiel was attentive to the word of the Lord, and he faithfully conveyed the messages he received. As believers, we should value and study the Word of God, seeking to understand and apply its teachings in our lives.
  • The role of prophecy:Ezekiel’s prophecies often contained messages of judgment and warning. This reminds us that God is sovereign and has the authority to judge and hold accountable those who rebel against Him. It also highlights the responsibility of prophets and messengers to faithfully proclaim God’s truth, even if it involves challenging or unpopular messages.
  • The danger of pride:One of the underlying themes in the message to the ruler of Tyre is the sin of pride. The ruler of Tyre had become arrogant and considered himself equal to a god. This passage serves as a reminder of the destructive nature of pride and the need for humility before God. As followers of Christ, we should guard against pride and cultivate a spirit of humility in our lives.
  • God’s sovereignty over earthly powers:Although this passage focuses on a specific ruler, it reflects a broader truth about God’s authority over all earthly powers and leaders. God is the ultimate authority, and He holds every leader accountable for their actions and attitudes. This reminds us to trust in God’s sovereignty, even in the midst of challenging circumstances.

Overall, Ezekiel 28:1 provides an introduction to the message that Ezekiel receives from the Lord concerning the ruler of Tyre. It also prompts us to reflect on the importance of God’s Word, the role of prophecy, the danger of pride, and God’s sovereignty over earthly powers.
