Ezekiel 30:25

Listen to this article

“But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the Lord when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.”

Ezekiel 30:25 is part of a larger passage (Ezekiel 30:20-26) where the prophet Ezekiel delivers a message from God concerning Egypt and its impending judgment. In this verse, God reveals that He will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon while causing the arms of Pharaoh (the ruler of Egypt) to fall down. The purpose of these events is for both the king of Babylon and the people of Egypt to acknowledge and recognize the sovereignty and power of the Lord.

To better understand this verse, let’s break it down:

"But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon": Here, God declares His intention to strengthen the military might and power of the king of Babylon, who was Nebuchadnezzar. God is in control of the nations and can raise up and bring down rulers according to His purpose.

"And the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down": In contrast to strengthening the king of Babylon, God states that the arms, symbolizing military strength, of Pharaoh (the ruler of Egypt) will fail or be powerless. This signifies that Egypt will experience a significant defeat or downfall.

"And they shall know that I am the Lord": The purpose of these events is for both the king of Babylon and the people of Egypt to recognize and acknowledge the supreme authority and power of the Lord. Through the actions described, God intends to reveal His sovereignty and make Himself known to these nations.

"When I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt": The metaphorical language of God putting His sword into the hand of the king of Babylon represents God granting Nebuchadnezzar the authority and power to execute His judgment upon Egypt. The stretching out of the sword upon the land of Egypt refers to the military conquest and the resulting devastation that would be brought upon the land.

In this passage, God uses the impending judgment of Egypt to demonstrate His supremacy over all nations. It serves as a reminder that God is not limited to a specific people or region but holds ultimate authority over all the earth. The rise and fall of nations are within His control, and He uses them to accomplish His purposes.

Overall, Ezekiel 30:25 conveys a message of divine sovereignty, demonstrating God’s power to orchestrate events in human history and establish His authority over rulers and nations.
