Ezekiel 32:26
“There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.”
Context:This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Ezekiel, where the prophet receives a message from the Lord to deliver to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, regarding the downfall of Egypt and its allies. In this specific verse, Ezekiel is referring to the nations of Meshech and Tubal, along with their multitude.
To understand the context of this verse, it’s important to note that Ezekiel was a prophet during the time of the Babylonian exile. God had appointed him to deliver messages to various nations, including Egypt, warning them of the consequences of their actions and their impending judgment.
In Ezekiel 32:26, the reference to “Meshech” and “Tubal” is believed to represent ancient nations or regions, often associated with the descendants of Japheth, one of Noah’s sons. They are mentioned in other prophetic books as well, such as Genesis 10:2 and Ezekiel 38:2.
The phrase “her graves are round about him” suggests that these nations, along with their multitudes, have been defeated and lie dead. The description of them as “uncircumcised” signifies that they were not part of the covenant community with God, and therefore, they did not observe the religious practices associated with the Israelites.
The latter part of the verse states that they were slain by the sword, highlighting the means of their destruction. It further emphasizes that despite the fear and terror they caused during their existence in the land of the living, they ultimately met their demise.
