Listen to this article

None of his sinnes that hee hath committed, shall be mentioned vnto him: he hath done that which is lawfull and right; he shall surely liue. Ezekiel 33:16 (KJV)

Context: To understand the verse better, it is important to consider its setting. The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and the prophet Ezekiel was called by God to deliver messages to the Israelites during their exile in Babylon. In Chapter 33, Ezekiel is appointed as a watchman, responsible for warning the people of impending danger and delivering messages of repentance and salvation.

Repentance and Forgiveness: The verse speaks about the forgiveness and mercy of God. It emphasizes that if a wicked person turns away from sinful ways and repents, their past sins will not be held against them. God’s desire is for sinners to repent and return to Him, and when they do, He forgives them completely.

Lawful and Righteous Living: The verse notes that the person has done what is lawful and right, implying a life lived in accordance with God’s commandments and moral principles. This suggests that righteous living is a prerequisite for receiving God’s forgiveness and salvation.

Eternal Life: The verse concludes that the person who has repented and lived righteously will “surely live.” This signifies more than physical existence; it points to spiritual life and the assurance of everlasting fellowship with God. When someone repents, turns to God, and lives in obedience, they receive the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal life.

Overall, Ezekiel 33:16 highlights the divine principles of repentance, forgiveness, righteous living, and the gift of eternal life offered by God. It encourages individuals to turn away from sin, seek forgiveness, and live in accordance with God’s commandments, assuring believers that God’s mercy is available to those who genuinely repent and that their past sins will not be held against them.
