“And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,”

In this verse, Ezekiel, the prophet, is relaying a message from the Lord.

Throughout the book of Ezekiel, the prophet receives various visions, prophecies, and messages from God, which he then delivers to the people of Israel.

The phrase “the word of the LORD came unto me” is a common introductory formula used in the book of Ezekiel, indicating that Ezekiel is about to share a divine message with the people.

This verse serves as a transition point, signaling a shift in the narrative or introducing a new message or vision that Ezekiel is about to convey.

It is an essential phrase in the book, highlighting the direct communication between God and His prophet.

By starting with this phrase, Ezekiel emphasizes the authority and importance of the message he is about to deliver.

It establishes that the words he is about to speak are not his own but come directly from the Lord.

Overall, Ezekiel 33:23 is a verse that sets the stage for the following messages and prophecies in the book, reinforcing the divine origin of Ezekiel’s words and his role as a prophet chosen by God.
