Listen to this article

“And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book that contains visions and messages from God given to the prophet Ezekiel. In this particular chapter, Ezekiel receives a prophecy concerning a future invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations led by a figure referred to as “Gog.”

Gog and Magog:The term “Gog” refers to a person, possibly a leader or a nation, who will come against the land of Israel. “Magog” is often understood as a geographical region associated with Gog. The exact identity of Gog and Magog is debated among scholars, but it generally represents a symbol of opposition and rebellion against God’s people.

The Time of the Prophecy:The prophecy in Ezekiel 38:18 refers to a specific time when Gog will come against the land of Israel. This suggests a future event that is yet to be fulfilled. The precise timing and circumstances of this event are a subject of interpretation and speculation among scholars.

God’s Fury:The verse highlights that when Gog comes against the land of Israel, the Lord God declares that His fury will come up in His face. This expression signifies God’s intense anger and righteous judgment against those who seek to harm His people. It emphasizes that God is the ultimate protector of Israel and will respond to any attack on His chosen nation.

Divine Intervention:The prophecy in Ezekiel 38 and 39 goes on to describe how God will intervene and defeat Gog and his armies. Despite the seemingly overwhelming forces that come against Israel, God assures that He will actively intervene and demonstrate His power and sovereignty over all nations.

  • In Conclusion:Ezekiel 38:18 is a prophecy that speaks of a future invasion of Israel by Gog and emphasizes God’s response of fury against those who come against His people. While the exact details and timing of the events are uncertain, the passage reminds us of God’s sovereignty and protection over His chosen nation, as well as His ultimate victory over the enemies of His people.
