Ezekiel 41:10

Listen to this article

And betweene the chambers was the widenesse of twentie cubites round about the house on euery side. Ezekiel 41:10 (KJV)

Context: The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and it contains visions and prophecies given to the prophet Ezekiel during the Babylonian exile. In this particular chapter, Ezekiel is given a vision of the temple, its dimensions, and various details.

The Temple: The verse you mentioned describes the width of the space between the chambers of the temple. The temple described in Ezekiel’s vision is different from the previous temples, including Solomon’s temple. This vision represents the future restoration of the temple during the Messianic era.

Symbolism: The dimensions and details of the temple in Ezekiel’s vision often have symbolic meanings. The numbers used, such as the twenty cubits mentioned in this verse, may have symbolic significance rather than just literal measurements. However, interpreting the symbolic meaning of these numbers can be challenging, and there are different interpretations among biblical scholars.

Surrounding Space: The verse states that there was a “wideness of twenty cubits round about the house on every side.” This suggests that there was an open space of twenty cubits (around 30 feet or 9 meters) between the chambers of the temple. This space may have served as a walkway or a common area.

Practical Considerations: While the vision of the temple described in Ezekiel is primarily symbolic, it also includes practical details. These details emphasize the grandeur and orderliness of the temple structure. The dimensions and measurements convey a sense of precision and purpose in the design of the temple.

Remember: Studying a single verse in isolation may not provide a complete understanding. To gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word, it is often helpful to study the surrounding verses, the context of the entire book, and related passages throughout the Bible.
