Ezekiel 41:15

Listen to this article

“And he measured the length of the building over against the separate place which was behind it, and the galleries thereof on the one side and on the other side, an hundred cubits, with the inner temple, and the porches of the court.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is filled with prophetic visions and messages from God. In this particular chapter, Ezekiel is given a detailed description of a vision he sees of the future temple in Jerusalem.

Measuring the length of the building:In this verse, Ezekiel is measuring the length of the building in his vision. The building mentioned here refers to the temple that he sees in his vision. This vision represents a future restoration and a return to worship in Jerusalem.

The separate place behind the building:The verse also mentions a separate place behind the building. This separate place likely refers to an area adjacent to the temple, possibly a courtyard or an outer area.

The galleries and porches:Ezekiel measures the galleries on the one side and on the other side of the building. Galleries can refer to covered walkways or colonnades. These galleries may have been used for various purposes, including providing shelter or serving as gathering places. The porches mentioned here likely refer to covered entrances or vestibules.

One hundred cubits:The measurement mentioned in the verse is one hundred cubits. A cubit was a unit of measurement used in biblical times, typically referring to the distance from a person’s elbow to the tip of their middle finger. The significance of this measurement is not explicitly explained in the verse.

Symbolism and significance:The detailed measurements and descriptions found throughout the book of Ezekiel, including this verse, often have symbolic meaning. They represent the meticulous care and precision that God takes in His plans and designs. The vision of the temple is a representation of the future glory of God’s presence among His people.

  • Spiritual application:While this verse primarily describes the physical measurements of the temple, it can also have spiritual implications. The temple was the place where God’s presence dwelled among His people in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, believers are referred to as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). As the temple of God, we should also have a reverence for God’s presence in our lives and strive to honor Him in all that we do.

In summary, Ezekiel 41:15 provides a detailed description of the building in Ezekiel’s vision of the future temple in Jerusalem. While the measurements and descriptions may have had specific purposes in the context of the vision, they also convey the idea of God’s meticulous care and attention to detail. As believers, we can apply the spiritual lesson of honoring God’s presence in our lives as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
