Ezekiel 45:5
And the fiue and twenty thousand of length, and the tenne thousand of breadth, shall also the Leuites the ministers of the house haue for themselues, for a possession for twentie chambers. Ezekiel 45:5 (KJV)
This verse belongs to a larger section in Ezekiel where the prophet receives a vision of the future temple. In that vision the Lord gives precise instructions for dividing the land and allocating portions to various groups. Ezekiel 45:5 specifies a particular parcel that measures twenty‑five thousand reeds in length and ten thousand reeds in breadth. That parcel is set apart for the Levites, the ministers of the house of God.
The Levites were a tribe consecrated for service in the Tabernacle and later the Temple. Unlike the other tribes of Israel, they did not receive a permanent tribal inheritance of land. Instead they were given cities scattered throughout the nation together with surrounding pasturelands. In this prophetic allocation the Levites receive a special possession within the temple complex itself, indicating a unique status among the people of God.
The possession consists of twenty chambers. These chambers are understood to be rooms or living quarters inside the temple area where the Levites would reside and carry out their duties. The allocation of such rooms underscores the Levites’ close proximity to the sanctuary and their continual service in the worship of the Lord.
Scholars have noted that the vision contains both literal and symbolic elements, and interpretations vary regarding the exact nature of the measurements and the chambers. Nevertheless, the passage clearly highlights the special role of the Levites as ministers in the house of God. Their dedicated service is emphasized by the provision of a distinct, owned space within the restored temple, reflecting both honor and responsibility in the worship of the Lord.
