Listen to this article

“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”

Context: The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and this particular verse is part of a vision that the prophet Ezekiel had concerning the future restoration of Jerusalem and the coming kingdom of God.

The river and its banks: In this vision, Ezekiel sees a river that flows out from the sanctuary, which represents the presence of God. The river is described as gradually becoming deeper and wider as it flows, eventually forming a mighty river that cannot be crossed.

Trees for meat: Along the banks of this river, Ezekiel sees an abundance of trees. These trees are described as bearing fruit that will not fade or be consumed. They will continually produce new fruit each month, providing sustenance and nourishment.

Spiritual significance: This verse carries spiritual symbolism, representing the blessings and abundance that will be experienced in the future kingdom of God. It speaks of a time of flourishing and provision, where God’s people will be abundantly nourished and sustained.

Eternal sustenance: The description of the trees bearing fruit that does not fade and new fruit each month signifies the perpetual nature of God’s provision. It indicates that in God’s kingdom, there will be an unending source of spiritual nourishment, sustenance, and blessing.

Healing and medicine: The verse also mentions that the leaves of the trees will be for medicine. This can be seen as a symbol of God’s healing and restoration, both physically and spiritually. In God’s kingdom, there will be complete wholeness and well-being.

Water from the sanctuary: The verse states that the waters of the river flow out of the sanctuary. Water is often associated with life and spiritual cleansing in the Bible. The fact that the river originates from the sanctuary emphasizes the divine source of these life-giving waters.
