Galatians 6:10

Listen to this article

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

1. Context: Galatians is a letter written by the apostle Paul to the churches in the region of Galatia. Throughout the letter, Paul addresses the issue of legalism and emphasizes the importance of faith in Christ for salvation. In the closing portion of his letter, Paul discusses practical applications of living a life led by the Spirit.

2. Seizing Opportunities: The verse begins with the phrase “As we have therefore opportunity.” Paul encourages believers to be aware of the opportunities that arise in their lives to do good to others. As followers of Christ, we should not only be focused on our personal needs but also be attentive to the needs of those around us. The Christian life is not just about receiving but also giving and serving.

3. Doing Good to All: Paul urges believers to “do good unto all men.” This emphasizes the universal scope of our responsibility to show kindness, love, and compassion to everyone we encounter. It is a call to live selflessly and to actively seek ways to make a positive impact on the lives of others. As representatives of Christ, we should exhibit His character and love toward all people, regardless of their background or beliefs.

4. Priority to Fellow Believers: While we are called to do good to all, Paul adds the qualifier “especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” This indicates that within the broader scope of doing good to everyone, there is a special responsibility towards fellow believers. The household of faith refers to the community of believers, the Church. We have a unique bond with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we should prioritize supporting, encouraging, and helping one another.

5. Implications for Believers: Galatians 6:10 teaches us several important principles. Firstly, we should be proactive in seeking opportunities to do good. This requires attentiveness and a willingness to act. Secondly, our acts of kindness should extend to all people, demonstrating God’s love and compassion. Thirdly, we should prioritize caring for and supporting our fellow believers, fostering a sense of unity and fellowship within the Church.

6. Application: Consider how you can practically apply Galatians 6:10 in your daily life. Look for opportunities to show kindness, help those in need, and encourage others. Seek ways to serve both within your faith community and in the wider world. Remember that even small acts of goodness can have a significant impact on the lives of others.
