“And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD.”

Morning Devotion:The verse begins by stating that Abraham “gat up early in the morning.” This phrase indicates Abraham’s eagerness and diligence in seeking the Lord’s presence. Getting up early in the morning suggests a desire for communion with God and a willingness to prioritise his relationship with the Lord above all else. Abraham’s actions serve as a reminder for us to start our days by seeking God, dedicating time for prayer, meditation, and reading of His Word.

A Familiar Place:Abraham goes to “the place where he stood before the LORD.” This indicates that there was a specific location where Abraham had previously encountered God or worshiped Him. It could have been a place where Abraham had built an altar or a designated spot where he sought the Lord’s guidance and presence. The fact that Abraham returns to this specific place suggests a sense of familiarity, reverence, and the recognition that it was a holy place where he had experienced a connection with God.

Consistency in Worship:Abraham’s action of returning to the place where he previously stood before the Lord reveals his consistency and commitment to worship. It highlights the importance of establishing regular patterns of worship and seeking God’s presence in our lives. Consistency in our devotion and worship helps cultivate a deeper relationship with God and allows us to experience His presence more intimately.

Reflection and Preparation:Abraham’s decision to return to the place where he encountered God could also signify a time of reflection and preparation. He may have gone there to seek further guidance, pray for God’s protection over Lot and his family, or seek understanding about the upcoming events. In our own lives, it is crucial to take time to reflect on our experiences, seek God’s guidance, and prepare ourselves spiritually for the challenges we may face.

Overall, Genesis 19:27 teaches us the importance of prioritising our relationship with God, seeking Him diligently, establishing consistent patterns of worship, and taking time for reflection and preparation in His presence. It encourages us to start our days by seeking God’s presence, recognising the significance of specific places where we have encountered Him before, and allowing Him to guide us in our journey of faith.
