Genesis 24:40

Listen to this article

And hee saide vnto me, The LORD, before whom I walke, will send his Angel with thee, and prosper thy way: and thou shalt take a wife for my sonne, of my kinred, and of my fathers house. Genesis 24:40 (KJV)

The verse belongs to the narrative of Genesis in which Abraham’s trusted servant is commissioned to travel and find a suitable wife for Isaac. The servant is recalling Abraham’s precise instructions, emphasizing that the mission is not merely a personal undertaking but one rooted in God’s overarching plan for Abraham’s family.

The servant’s words reveal a deep reliance on divine guidance. He acknowledges that Abraham directed him to seek the Lord’s direction, expressing confidence that God will send an angel to accompany him and prosper his journey. This underscores the biblical principle that God is actively involved in the affairs of His people and is willing to guide those who earnestly seek Him.

Equally evident is the servant’s trust in God’s provision. He believes that the Lord will bless his way and enable him to secure a wife for Isaac. This trust invites believers to place their confidence in God’s ability to meet their needs and to guide them along the right path, even when the task ahead seems daunting.

The instruction to find a wife from Abraham’s own kindred and father’s house reflects covenant faithfulness. It ties directly to the covenant God made with Abraham, promising blessings to his descendants. By insisting on a partner from the same family, the verse highlights the importance of preserving spiritual heritage and seeking relationships that share the same faith and covenantal commitment.

Finally, the passage conveys God’s care for His people. The servant’s mission is linked to God’s larger purpose for Abraham’s lineage, demonstrating that the Lord is concerned with the well‑being and future of His chosen ones. This assurance offers comfort, reminding believers that God watches over their concerns and works for their good.

In summary, Genesis 24:40 teaches the value of seeking divine guidance, trusting in God’s provision, honoring covenant faithfulness, and resting in the assurance of God’s caring presence in the lives of His people.
