Listen to this article

“Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV): For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”

Context:The book of Habakkuk is one of the minor prophets in the Old Testament. Habakkuk lived during a time of great injustice and violence in Judah. In this verse, the prophet receives a vision and declaration from God regarding the future state of the earth.

God’s Glory:The phrase “the knowledge of the glory of the Lord” refers to the awareness and understanding of the magnificence and splendor of God’s nature and character. It encompasses the recognition of His power, righteousness, mercy, and love.

Filling the Earth:The verse declares that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of God’s glory. This implies a universal manifestation and recognition of God’s greatness. It signifies a time when the knowledge of God will be widespread, reaching every corner of the earth and every person.

Similarity to Waters:The comparison to the waters covering the sea emphasizes the extent and completeness of the knowledge of God’s glory. Just as the waters completely cover the sea, the knowledge of God will pervade the earth entirely.

Fulfillment:While this verse does not explicitly mention a specific time frame, it points to a future state where the knowledge of God’s glory will prevail. As believers, we can interpret this in light of the coming of Christ and the establishment of His kingdom on earth, where the knowledge of God will be made known to all.

Application:Habakkuk 2:14 reminds us of God’s ultimate plan to reveal Himself to the world. As followers of Christ, we have the privilege and responsibility to contribute to the fulfillment of this prophecy. We can actively participate in spreading the knowledge of God’s glory through our lives, words, and actions, proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work.

  • Encouragement and Hope:This verse offers encouragement and hope to believers. It assures us that despite the prevailing darkness and evil in the world, a day will come when the knowledge of God’s glory will prevail, bringing transformation and restoration.

Habakkuk 2:14 speaks of a future time when the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, comparable to the waters covering the sea. It inspires believers to live in anticipation of that day and actively participate in making God’s glory known to the world.
