Habakkuk 3:19

Posted on 18 May at 14:53
Listen to this article

“The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.”

1. Background: Habakkuk was a prophet who lived during a time of social and moral decay in Judah. The book of Habakkuk records a conversation between the prophet and God regarding the wickedness and violence in the land. In Habakkuk 3, the prophet concludes his dialogue with a prayer and a song of praise.

2. Passage:

3. Key Themes:

a) God as the source of strength: Habakkuk acknowledges that the LORD God is his strength. This verse reminds us that our strength ultimately comes from God. In times of difficulty or weakness, we can rely on His power and find renewed strength in Him.

b) God’s ability to enable us to overcome obstacles: The phrase “he will make my feet like hinds’ feet” refers to the agility and sure-footedness of a deer. Just as a deer can navigate treacherous terrain with ease, God has the power to enable us to overcome obstacles and challenges that come our way. He equips us with the necessary abilities and skills to walk through difficult circumstances.

c) Walking in high places: The phrase “he will make me to walk upon mine high places” signifies walking in victory and triumph. It represents a position of honor and authority. God promises to elevate us to places of influence and blessing, where we can experience His abundant provision and guidance.

4. Application:

a) Trusting in God’s strength: Habakkuk’s affirmation of God’s strength encourages us to rely on Him in all situations. Instead of depending on our own limited abilities, we can trust in God’s unfailing power to sustain us.

b) Perseverance in challenging times: Habakkuk’s reference to hind’s feet reminds us to remain steadfast and sure-footed even when facing difficult circumstances. God empowers us to navigate through trials and emerge victorious on the other side.

c) Walking in victory: As believers, we are called to walk in the authority and victory that God provides. We can trust that God will lead us to “high places” of His blessing, favor, and spiritual growth. Our walk with God should reflect His goodness and bring glory to His name.

d) Worship and praise: The reference to the chief singer and stringed instruments at the end of the verse indicates that this prayer and song were intended for public worship. It reminds us of the importance of praising and worshiping God, even in the midst of challenging circumstances.
