“Hosea 4:3 (KJV): Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.”

Hosea 4:3 is a verse from the book of Hosea in the Old Testament. The book of Hosea is attributed to the prophet Hosea and contains a message of warning, rebuke, and restoration for the people of Israel. In this verse, the prophet describes a state of mourning and devastation that will befall the land and all its inhabitants.

The verse begins with the phrase, “Therefore shall the land mourn.” The word “therefore” refers back to the preceding verses, where the Lord pronounces judgment upon the people of Israel for their sins, specifically their idolatry, adultery, and dishonesty. Due to their disobedience and unfaithfulness, the land will experience mourning and devastation.

The verse continues, “and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish.” This refers to the people who inhabit the land. The consequences of their disobedience will result in suffering and distress. The phrase “languish” implies a state of weakness, feebleness, or faintness, indicating the physical and spiritual decline of the people.

The verse goes on to mention the impact on the animals: “with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.” The judgment and devastation described here extend not only to human beings but also to the animal kingdom. The suffering and mourning will be so pervasive that it will affect all living creatures. The language used suggests a severe environmental impact, where even the creatures of the land, sky, and sea will be affected.

Overall, Hosea 4:3 serves as a stern warning of the consequences of disobedience and unfaithfulness to God. It emphasizes that the entire land and its inhabitants, both human and animal, will experience devastation and suffering as a result. This verse highlights the importance of obedience, faithfulness, and maintaining a right relationship with God.
