Isaiah 10:2

Listen to this article

“To turn aside the needy from judgment and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!”

Isaiah 10:2 is part of a larger passage in which the prophet Isaiah addresses the wickedness and injustice prevalent in his time. The verse highlights the actions of those who exploit the vulnerable members of society, such as the needy, the poor, widows, and fatherless children.

In this verse, Isaiah condemns the unjust actions of those who pervert justice and deprive the needy of their rights. It speaks of individuals who manipulate the legal system, turning aside the cause of the poor and denying them justice. These oppressors seek personal gain and prey upon those who are already marginalised, such as widows and orphans.

This verse serves as a stern rebuke against the unrighteousness of those in power who abuse their positions for personal gain at the expense of the weak and defenceless. Throughout the book of Isaiah, the prophet often speaks out against social injustices and advocates for righteousness and compassion.

Isaiah’s words remind us of the importance of justice, mercy, and care for the marginalised and vulnerable in society. As followers of God, we are called to uphold justice and defend the rights of the oppressed, just as Isaiah did in his time.

Overall, Isaiah 10:2 reminds us of the responsibility to treat all people, especially the marginalised and disadvantaged, with fairness, compassion, and respect.
