Isaiah 14:30

Listen to this article

“And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.”

Context:Isaiah 14 is a chapter that contains a prophecy against the king of Babylon. This specific verse, Isaiah 14:30, is part of a larger section where the Lord is pronouncing judgment on different nations and delivering messages of comfort to Israel.

Provision for the poor and needy:The verse begins with the promise that “the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety.” This portrays a reversal of fortunes for the impoverished and marginalized. In God’s plan, those who were previously overlooked and oppressed will receive His provision and experience security.

Judgment against Babylon:The latter part of the verse states, “and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.” Here, the Lord declares His judgment upon Babylon, symbolized by the “root.” Famine is mentioned as a means of executing His judgment. This indicates that the Babylonian empire will face destruction and its remnant will be slain, emphasizing God’s sovereignty over nations and His ability to bring about judgment.

Overall, Isaiah 14:30 portrays a message of hope and justice. God promises to provide for the poor and needy, while also declaring His judgment upon the oppressive nations. This verse serves as a reminder that God is attentive to the plight of the vulnerable and will ultimately bring justice to those who perpetrate evil.
