Isaiah 32:4

Posted on 18 May at 14:14
Listen to this article

“The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.”

Historical Context:The book of Isaiah was written by the prophet Isaiah during the reigns of several kings of Judah. This verse is part of a prophecy concerning the future messianic era when a righteous king would rule over Israel.

Symbolic Language:The verse uses figurative language to describe the transformation that will take place among the people under the righteous rule. It speaks of the “heart” of the rash and the “tongue” of the stammerers. These descriptions represent people who lack wisdom and struggle with communication.

Transformation of the Rash:The phrase “the heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge” indicates a change in the character and understanding of those who are impulsive and lack discernment. Under the righteous reign of the messianic king, even the foolish and hasty individuals will gain wisdom and understanding.

Clarity of Speech:The latter part of the verse states, “the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.” This suggests that those who struggle with communication, possibly due to a speech impediment or lack of confidence, will be able to express themselves clearly and effectively. It indicates a removal of hindrances and the enabling of eloquent speech.

Spiritual Application:This verse speaks to the transformative power of God’s rule and the impact it has on individuals. It highlights that under the righteous reign of the Messiah, people will experience a change of heart, gaining wisdom and understanding. Additionally, those who struggle with communication will find their voices, becoming confident and able to express themselves effectively.

Christological Perspective:As Christians, we can also view this verse through a Christological lens. Jesus Christ, the ultimate fulfilment of the messianic prophecy, brings wisdom and understanding to those who follow Him. Through His teachings and the work of the Holy Spirit, believers gain insight and discernment. Furthermore, Jesus empowers His followers to speak boldly and clearly, overcoming any hindrances or limitations.
