Seeke ye out of the booke of the Lord, and reade: no one of these shall faile, none shall want her mate: for my mouth, it hath commaunded, and his spirit, it hath gathered them. Isaiah 34:16 (KJV)

Isaiah 34:16 belongs to a prophecy given by the prophet Isaiah concerning the judgment of Edom, a historical enemy of Israel. The verse opens with a clear exhortation to “seek ye out of the book of the Lord,” urging believers to actively pursue knowledge and understanding from God’s Word. This call invites the faithful to delve into the Scriptures, to study and meditate on them, and to seek the Lord’s guidance in every aspect of life.

The statement “no one of these shall fail” affirms the reliability and trustworthiness of God’s Word. It declares that the prophecies and promises contained within the Scriptures will be fulfilled without fail, highlighting the faithfulness of God to bring His word to completion. This assurance provides confidence to those who place their trust in Him.

The phrase “none shall want her mate” is presented with two complementary interpretations. First, it suggests that God’s Word is complete and self‑sufficient, lacking nothing and requiring no supplemental writings or teachings. Second, it indicates that every prophecy or spoken word will find its fulfillment and counterpart, implying that all that the Lord declares will be brought to pass.

Finally, the verse concludes, “for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them,” emphasizing the divine authority and origin of the Scriptures. The words spoken by the Lord carry power because they are the result of His command and the work of His Spirit, underscoring that the Scriptures are not merely human compositions but are inspired by God.

Overall, Isaiah 34:16 encourages believers to seek wisdom and guidance from the Word of God, assuring them of its reliability, completeness, and divine authority. As believers engage with the Scriptures and align their lives with its teachings, they can find direction, comfort, and assurance in their relationship with God.
