Posted on 18 May at 14:08

It shall blossome abundantly, and reioyce euen with ioy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shal be giuen vnto it, the excellencie of Carmel and Sharon: they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellencie of our God. Isaiah 35:2 (KJV)

Context: To understand this verse better, it’s important to consider its context within the book of Isaiah. Isaiah was a prophet who delivered messages to the people of Israel during a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. The book of Isaiah contains a mix of prophecies, warnings, and promises regarding God’s judgment, redemption, and restoration. In chapter 35, Isaiah speaks of the future restoration and renewal of the land of Israel.

Symbolism: The verse uses vivid imagery and symbolism to describe the transformation and flourishing of the land. “It shall blossom abundantly” refers to the desolate and barren land being renewed and bursting with life. This imagery is a representation of God’s blessings and restoration upon His people.

Joy and Singing: The verse also mentions that the land will rejoice with joy and singing. This indicates the immense happiness and celebration that will accompany the restoration. It signifies the joy that comes from experiencing God’s redemption and the blessings of His presence.

Glory of Lebanon, Carmel, and Sharon: Lebanon, Carmel, and Sharon were known for their natural beauty and fertility. The mention of their glory being given to the land further emphasizes the abundance and flourishing that will occur during this time of restoration. It suggests that the renewed land will be even more magnificent and fruitful than these renowned regions.

Seeing the Glory of the LORD: The verse concludes with the promise that the people will see the glory of the LORD and the excellency of our God. This speaks of a direct encounter with God’s divine presence and power. It highlights the spiritual significance and divine intervention involved in the restoration of the land.

Overall, Isaiah 35:2 paints a beautiful picture of God’s restorative work, transforming desolation into abundance and bringing joy and singing. It emphasizes the divine nature of this transformation and the people’s encounter with God’s glory. This verse serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and His ability to bring restoration to seemingly hopeless situations.
