Isaiah 44:2

Listen to this article

Thus sayeth the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the wombe, which wil helpe thee: Feare not, O Iacob, my seruant, and thou Iesurun, whom I haue chosen. Isaiah 44:2 (KJV)

The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament that contains messages from the prophet Isaiah to the people of Judah and Jerusalem. This verse is part of a larger passage in which God speaks to His people, reassuring them of His faithfulness and power.

The Creator God: The verse begins by emphasizing that the LORD is the one who made and formed His people. This highlights God’s role as the Creator of humanity. He is not an impersonal force but a personal God who intimately knows and cares for His creation.

Help and Assurance: The wording “which will help thee” indicates that God is the one who will provide assistance, support, and protection. It reflects His compassionate nature and His desire to intervene on behalf of those who trust in Him.

Fear not: The phrase “Fear not” appears frequently in Scripture and often accompanies a message of encouragement. Here God specifically addresses Jacob, representing the people of Israel, and Jeshurun, a poetic name for Israel meaning “upright one” or “beloved.” God reassures His chosen people that they have no reason to fear because He is with them.

God’s chosen ones: The verse highlights that Jacob (Israel) and Jeshurun are God’s servants and chosen ones. Throughout the Bible, God repeatedly emphasizes His special relationship with the nation of Israel and His purpose for them. As God’s chosen people, they have a unique calling and responsibility to serve Him.

In sum, Isaiah 44:2 presents a powerful reminder that the Lord who created us from the womb also promises help, dispels fear, and calls us to a devoted service as His chosen people.
