“Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.”

Isaiah 46:8 (KJV) says, “Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors.”

Context:The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book found in the Old Testament. It contains messages of both judgment and restoration, addressing the people of Israel during a time of spiritual decline and impending exile. Isaiah 46 is a chapter that focuses on God’s sovereignty and contrasts it with the weakness of idols.

Remembering God’s Power:The verse begins with the command, “Remember this.” God is urging His people to recall His past acts of deliverance and His faithfulness throughout their history. By remembering God’s power, they would be reminded of His ability to save and guide them.

Be Men:The phrase “shew yourselves men” is a call to be strong and courageous. It urges the people to exhibit qualities of maturity, responsibility, and faithfulness. It implies that the people should not act like children, dependent on idols, but rather take ownership of their actions and decisions.

Bringing It Again to Mind:God exhorts the transgressors to “bring it again to mind.” This phrase indicates the need to reflect on God’s character, His promises, and His past acts of redemption. By recalling these truths, the people would recognize the futility of trusting in idols and turn back to the Lord.

Confronting Transgressions:The verse ends with the address, “O ye transgressors.” This highlights the rebellious nature of the people and their tendency to turn away from God. It serves as a reminder that their idolatry and disobedience have consequences and that they need to repent and return to the Lord.

Overall, Isaiah 46:8 encourages the people of Israel to remember God’s power, to act with maturity and courage, and to confront their transgressions. It emphasises the importance of relying on God alone rather than putting their trust in idols. This verse carries a timeless message that is relevant not only to the original audience but also to believers today, reminding us to remember God’s faithfulness, take responsibility for our actions, and seek repentance when we have strayed from His path.
